 classic Reuben sandwich


Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of rye bread
  • 1 pound of thinly sliced corned beef
  • 1 cup of sauerkraut, drained
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup of Thousand Island dressing
  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, softened

Instructions:

  1. Preheat a griddle or a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. Lay out the slices of rye bread and spread a thin layer of Thousand Island dressing on each slice.

  3. On four of the slices, layer equal amounts of corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese.

  4. Top each with the remaining slices of bread, dressing side down, to form sandwiches.

  5. Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each sandwich.

  6. Place the sandwiches on the preheated griddle or skillet and cook until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  7. Press down on the sandwiches with a spatula while cooking to help them hold together.

  8. Once the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, remove the sandwiches from the griddle or skillet.

  9. Allow the sandwiches to cool for a minute before slicing them in half.

  10. Serve your classic Reuben sandwiches warm and enjoy!
